Drill Return

Drill, one of the North East's and the UK' s most unique bands are returning to live action after an absence of 12 years. The return gig will be at The Cluny, Newcastle upon Tyne on Wednesday 12th December.

Between 1990 and 1994 the band released 4 albums on the Abstract Sounds and Retribution labels. They fused driving drum programs, pounding bass, and intricate guitar rhythms, orchestrating three guitar layers to create an avalanche of sound. The later albums combined samples and electronica with the same screeching guitars and vapour trailed vocals, before the band took early retirement in 1995.

This time round the band have returned with a line up consisting of four previous members; Kev Wilkinson, Si Moore, Si Malarkey, Ant Bircham and newbie Dave Francis. The drum programs and three guitars remain but this time the sound is augmented by a second bass guitarist.

The new Drill material is more intense, massive and intricate than before, each track a noise opera of sonic terrorism. As Kev says "we weren't going to get back together just to churn out the old stuff. We wanted to challenge what we could play as musicians, push ourselves to the limits and create something different, something that no one else is doing."

So come down to The Cluny on Wednesday 12th December to see what all the fuss is about. Tickets £4, Support to be confirmed.
